Alumni House was built in 1911 as the private home of Robert S. Brookings, then President of Washington University in St. Louis’ Board of Directors. In 1923, Brookings turned the house and adjoining 40-acre parcel over to the university for use as a Chancellor’s residence. It was used for that purpose until 1958 when the university acquired Harbison House. In 1962, the house was designated as the center for alumni activities, giving it its current name of Alumni House.
