Speaker: Dr. Erica James, Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow, Department of Art History and Archaeology
Women and the Kemper Host: Adrienne Davis, William M. Van Cleve Professor of Law
This study session is being held in conjunction with Dr. James’s course “The Art of the Harlem Renaissance: Picturing and Performing the Black Modern Subject.” A Bahamian citizen, Dr. James received her BA at Vassar College, an MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Chicago, and a PhD in Art History from Duke University. She is a specialist in African diasporic arts, modernism and modernity in “non-western” societies, as well as in representations of trauma in art. She served until December, 2008 as the Director of the National Gallery of the Bahamas, in Nassau.
